Sony has a new tablet to shout about in the form of the Xperia tablet Z. This 10-inch slate
has a 1080p display, a super-slim frame, Android Jelly Bean and it's waterproof
too.
Sony has ditched the folded over, magazine-style of
its previous Tablet, instead
opting for a more usual rectangular slab aesthetic.
Of particular note is its thickness; the Z measures a mere 6.9mm deep, which is quite a considerable slice off the iPad's 9.4mm. It's actually slimmer than the ipad mini (7.2mm).

But we found
Sony's efforts to make the tablet so skinny aren't without drawbacks -- it's
resulted in it feeling a little flimsy in the hand. If you tried hard enough
you can definitely sense some flex in the chassis.
Sony has
crammed some potent components into the slim frame. A 1.5GHz quad-core
Snapdragon S4 processor powers the device, with 2GB of RAM alongside. Sony has
also preloaded its Music and Movies Unlimited services (both require extra
subscriptions, the former coming with a 60-day free trial) and provides access
to its PlayStation games store. Thanks to the built in infra-red sensor, the Z
is able to function as a universal remote, controlling not only Sony's TVs,
Blu-ray players and Hi-Fis, but models from a vast list of companies, some of
which were completely new to us.
